The Beaches

Jacksonville Beach gutters take a beating from salt air and storm surge winds. South Coast
Ponte Vedra Beach shares the same salt exposure and storm risk as the beaches to the north. Many homes here back up to dunes or marsh, so downspout discharge locations should be carefully planned to keep water moving away from sandy soils that drain fast but erode easily.
Ponte Vedra Beach homes often have longer roof lines and larger roof areas. Downspout count and placement should be calculated to handle the volume a tropical downpour delivers. Wind-driven rain makes drip-edge integration critical, and gutters should be tucked under the roof edge correctly to catch water sheeting off in high wind.
Along the St. Johns River
Mandarin, Arlington and Orange Park sit further inland along the river and its tributaries. Salt is less of a factor, but tree cover is heavy. Live oaks drop leaves and pollen in spring, pines shed needles year-round, and summer thunderstorms dump water fast enough to test any gutter system’s capacity.
Mandarin’s heavy tree canopy means gutters fill with oak leaves, acorns and pine straw fast. Wider K-style gutters and extra hangers help carry the weight of wet debris between cleanings. Rotted fascia is common here because humidity keeps leaking gutters from drying out, so any bad wood should be flagged during an estimate.
Arlington sits along the St. Johns with a mix of mid-century ranches and newer builds. Many older homes still have half-round gutters that spill over in heavy rain. Replacing them with properly sized K-style runs and adding splash blocks or extensions at every downspout helps move water away from slab foundations.
Orange Park gets the same summer storms as the rest of the region, and many subdivisions have homes with complex roof valleys that concentrate water. Downspouts should be placed at valley ends and miters cut tight to handle the volume. Pine straw is a constant issue here, so tighter hanger spacing helps keep the gutter from pulling away under the load.
