Scope 01
Full Gutter Replacement on a Ranch
- Typical situation
- A 1960s concrete-block ranch still has its original spike-and-ferrule gutters. Several sections pull away from the fascia, and water spills over the back at the low end.
- What the work involves
- The old system is removed, the fascia is checked for rot, and new .032 aluminum K-style gutters are hung with hidden screw-in hangers. Each run is pitched toward a 2x3 downspout outlet and all end caps and miters are replaced.
- The main decision
- Whether to stay with 5-inch K-style or go up to 6-inch if the roof has a steep pitch or heavy leaf load.
Scope 02
Seamless Gutters for a Newer Subdivision Home
- Typical situation
- A two-story home built in the last 15 years has undersized 5-inch gutters that overflow during summer thunderstorms. The builder-grade downspouts clog at the elbows.
- What the work involves
- Seamless gutters are run on-site from .032 aluminum coil, cut to the exact length of each eave with no mid-run seams. The 2x3 downspouts are swapped for 3x4 downspouts and a second outlet is added on runs longer than 40 feet.
- The main decision
- Color match: standard white or a custom color to match the trim.
Scope 03
Adding Gutter Guards to an Existing System
- Typical situation
- A house with mature live oaks and pines gets gutters full of oak leaves and pine straw within weeks of cleaning. The gutters are in good shape but the owner is tired of climbing a ladder.
- What the work involves
- The existing gutters are cleaned, all hangers and pitch are checked, then a micro-mesh guard system is installed that sits flat under the shingle edge and locks into the front lip. The guard keeps out pine straw and oak tassels while letting rain sheet through.
- The main decision
- Solid hood guard versus micro-mesh, based on whether the main debris is pine straw or fine oak tassels.
Scope 04
Downspout Reroute and Splash Block Fix
- Typical situation
- A downspout dumps water right at the corner of the slab, and a low spot in the soil lets water pool against the foundation after every heavy rain.
- What the work involves
- The downspout is cut above the elbow, an extension piece is added, and it is run along the wall to a point where the grade slopes away. A concrete splash block is set or a drain pipe is buried to carry water at least four feet from the slab.
- The main decision
- Above-ground extension with a splash block or an underground drain line with a pop-up emitter.
Scope 05
Commercial Gutter Run on a Strip Center
- Typical situation
- A retail strip center in Jacksonville has a 120-foot straight eave with a single downspout at one end. The gutter overflows at the far end and drips onto the sidewalk.
- What the work involves
- A seamless 6-inch commercial gutter is fabricated on-site, a second downspout is added at the midpoint, and heavy-duty hangers are used. All seams at end caps and outlets get riveted and sealed.
- The main decision
- Downspout placement: exterior wall drops versus routing through an interior chase if the building layout allows it.
Scope 06
Near-Ocean Aluminum Gutter Install
- Typical situation
- A beach cottage near the ocean has rusted steel brackets and fasteners on gutters that are only eight years old. Salt-laden air has eaten through the hardware while the aluminum troughs are still intact.
- What the work involves
- The old steel hardware is removed, the aluminum runs are inspected for pitting, and they are re-hung with stainless-steel screws and powder-coated aluminum brackets. If a section is too far gone, just that run is replaced with new .032 aluminum seamless gutter.
- The main decision
- Full replacement with all stainless hardware versus a targeted re-hang with new brackets and screws.
